Course Title: Hunger and Homelessness

Course Description
The course will examine hunger and homeless in the USA, including current efforts to address the issue and the general shortcomings of eliminating the issue. Central to the carefully designed curriculum is an academic intensive experience in Washington DC over spring break week. Students will serve in soup kitchens, food distribution centers and/or homeless shelters in Washington DC for approximately 15 hours.
Course Learning Outcomes:
Students who complete readings and participate in this course will:
- Increase knowledge of hunger and homelessness issues in the United States
- Demonstrate and analyze the complexity of these social issues
- Incorporate the knowledge and experience gained from this academic experience into the broader educational objectives of their own course of study.

Program Tuition: $660 / $560*
* Updated 2/8/07 - Tuition Discount: Students who apply by February 23, 2007 will receive a $100 program tuition discount.
Program Tuition Includes:
- 1 undergraduate academic credit through West Virginia University
- Room and board during spring break academic program
- Scheduled educational, cultural and service activities
- Transportation to Washington DC
Additional Program Related Expenses:
- Travel related expenses including medical insurances
