2003 Programs


There were nine international service-learning programs involving 111 undergraduate and graduate students, completing 3-6 credits each, and cumulatively volunteering 7,500 hours of community service.

Anthropology
Community Health in Tanzania

Students researched topics relevant to community health and social structure while serving with Nyakahanga Hospital, which houses many important community health programs (WHO, UNICEF, and African AIDS Control Program). Political Science
Studying International Development through Service-Learning - the Roma in Bulgaria in an Integrating Europe
Students studied development, European Union Associate Status, and minority rights while serving with an orphanage for Roma children. Faculty: Benedict E. Economic Development of Africa: A Case Study of Ghana
Students discussed theories of economic development and how these apply to the Ghanaian economy while serving with the Voluntary Workcamps Association of Ghana (VOLU). Students served with a community organization and studied theories of globalization while learning from local scholars about contemporary economic and political conditions and what Jamaicans are doing about them. Film Studies
Introduction to Video in Jamaica

Literature and the Contemporary in Northern Ireland

Global Education: Linking International Issues through Service-Learning Education in the Amazon

Cross Cultural Issues in Family and Child Development
