2001 Programs

There were four international service-learning programs that involved 47 undergraduate and graduate students, completing 3-6 credit hours each, and cumulatively volunteering 3,290 hours of community service.

English
Travel Journal Writing in Bolivia
Students learned and practiced the art of travel writing while immersed in the Andean highlands where they helped build an orphanage for Quechua children. Faculty: David Brumble, Ph.D., CAS Professor of English, University of Pittsburgh

Film Studies
Ireland, Revealed in Ireland
Students learned about social documentary photography as a tool for community activism by documenting marginalized communities in Dublin and Belfast. Faculty: Jen Saffron, MFA, director of PITT ARTS, University of Pittsburgh

Literature of the Americas in Brazil
Students studied American colonial and contemporary literature while immersed in the Amazon River culture, where they built a computer lab for street children.

Graduate School of Public and International Affairs
International Development Theory and Practice in Peru
