Financial Aid Information and Links

Amizade Global Service-Learning Programs are a very accessible, affordable option in study abroad.

Tuition covers many expenses

With Amizade Programs, room and board, cultural excursions and onsite transportation expenses are covered by the program tuition fee. For many students the program tuition is comparable to taking six credits on campus!

Amizade scholarships
Amizade offers tuition scholarships to qualified students based on financial need. In 2007, it is anticipated that 1 in 3 qualifying students will receive a scholarship of at least $250 toward their program fees.

University scholarships
Many colleges and universities offer scholarships for study abroad. A scholarship of $250 - $1000 will go a long way for a global service-learning program! Check with your study abroad office at your home institution to explore your options.  Local organizations, agencies, and companies in your community may have scholarships as well.

University of Pittsburgh Johnstown Students – Contact the Director of International Studies at 104B Krebs Hall, (814) 269-2977, heinisch@pitt.edu to explore your scholarship and financial aid options.

Student Loans
Explore your financial aid options in terms of deferred loans from local banks, grants, and federal financial aid. Your Study Abroad Office and/or Financial Aid Office at your home institution can further discuss these options with you.

Summer work
Since most courses include 3-4 weeks on location, you will have time in the country to get a flavor for the culture but also have the rest of your summer to work or pursue other opportunities. Many programs run at the beginning or end of the summer, so you can still have an uninterrupted internship or summer job, for example.
