Amizade Global Service-Learning Consortium
(AGSLC):
An academic partnership with West Virginia University
Through an academic partnership with West Virginia University,
the AGSLC offers exciting and innovative service-learning programs.
The programs integrate focused academic coursework, meaningful
service, and short-term study abroad in communities around the
world. Through this combination of rigorous coursework and tested
global service-learning practice, the AGSLC encourages the academic,
civic and personal growth of its student participants.
Opportunities for Program Instruction
AGSLC programs are unique in the service-learning field for their shared responsibilities
throughout the course development and implementation process. Program
Instructors work with a trained Service-Learning
Facilitator to integrate and implement
intercultural service-learning theory and practice into their program. While
abroad, the Instructor and Facilitator work with an Amizade Program Director
who coordinates the service work and program participants' interactions
with the host community. Global Service-Learning through the AGSLC involves
a number of people working together to create the best possible learning
environment for our students.
AGSLC programs are taught by dynamic university faculty from
colleges and universities throughout the United States and abroad.
Opportunities to teach global service-learning programs are currently
available during the summer term and January inter-term, with
expanded opportunities to teach in the fall and spring terms starting
in 2007.
Opportunities for Students
AGSLC programs are open to students from all colleges and universities throughout
the United States and abroad. Our programs are comprised of a diverse mix
of students from various schools, geographic areas, and academic disciplines
further enhancing the learning and cross-cultural experience. The academic
course credits from West Virginia University are transferable to the home
institution toward graduation requirements.
Opportunities for Institutional
Partnership
Through the AGSLC Institutional Affiliate Program, universities and colleges
have the opportunity to partner with Amizade and West Virginia University
to bring global service-learning programs to your students. Affiliate members
receive preferential enrollment for their qualifying students, support services
from Amizade, and promotional and recruitment materials for use on campus.
