How to apply: Reservations are made upon receipt of your completed application and program deposit of US$100.00.  Once confirmed into a program, participants will receive additional program planning materials from the Amizade office.  All participants are required to complete a Program Application, Medical and Insurance Form, and Liability Waiver prior to the start of their program.  The Amizade Staff are available to answer questions and assist with planning and participating in a program (412-441-6655, volunteer@amizade.org).  Please plan ahead as many of our programs fill up well in advance.

Your Program Contribution: Room and board, transportation during the program*, recreational, cultural, and educational activities, project materials, Amizade staff and administrative fees are included in your Program Contribution.  Amizade alumni, families of four or more and volunteers who sign up for more than one program will receive a discount.  Amizade is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and Program Contributions are tax deductible.

*Alternative Break Programs must supply their own on-site transportation and travel to the program site.

Additional Costs: Some additional costs may include travel to the program site, passports, visas, immunizations, departure taxes, insurance, etc.

Volunteer Service:  The scheduled volunteer service will vary depending on the program and location, and the needs identified by the host community.  Service opportunities can range from “bricks and mortar” construction projects to teaching English as a second language.  For most Amizade programs, volunteers do not need any special skills or past experiences in order to participate.

Recreational, Cultural and Educational Opportunities: All programs include a variety of opportunities to be immersed in the culture of the region.  Hiking in the Brazilian Amazon, visiting a Bolivian open-air market and viewing the native Yellowstone wildlife are just a few examples.  Language courses and other educational activities can be arranged.

Housing: Amizade makes every reasonable arrangement to provide safe, clean and comfortable accommodations with access to running water, showers, and electricity.  Accommodations will vary depending on the program location and project and typically include retreat centers, dormitories, hotels, hostels, home stays, and cabins/tenting.
