Where Can I Serve With Amizade?
Amizade promotes community-driven service and friendship (or Amizade in Portuguese, pronounced ah-mee-zha-jee) across cultures around the world. Last year, we connected more than 300 students and volunteers to community projects in 13 communities in nine countries (learn more about each of our sites, using the buttons on the left column of this page).
In recent months, Amizade’s volunteers (ages teens to 70s) working with community groups accomplished the following:
- put the finishing touches on walls for a Bolivian school;
- installed water tanks and conducted a survey for a women’s organization in Tanzania;
- tutored Navajo Nation children through much of the spring;
- spent several months working in health centers in rural Ghana.
Harder to quantify are the transforming friendships forged through intercultural immersion and exchange.
